Virtual Chemistry Lab Software
« on: January 19, 2014, 09:07:03 PM »
Hello this is my first post so I'd love some feedback.

Basically, I am looking for a virtual chemistry lab program that I can run from my MacBook Pro. I've done some research, including a search of this forum and I've come up empty handed. I really want something I can perform basic, as well as complicated experiments I'm the safety and comfort of my own home. I would want virtual beakers, flasks, stirring rods, basic chemical compounds, etc., etc. I just don't currently have access to a complete lab set up and would rather just purchase software and carry out my experiments virtually.

Please excuse me if I am completely missing some popular software capable of exactly what I've described, but so far I can't find one worth downloading/purchasing.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I put my lab in my house a year ago and have never looked back.  Save you money, and learn proper (real) laboratory technique, as that is a hard skill to master in orgo!

You will not learn anything like this.  Get some glass and chemicals and do basic experiments at home.  No program like this exists because the educational value of it is 0.

I remember having this about a year ago in school; http://www.yenka.com/science/

Although I recall it being very basic, and you never really got the visuals that you would expect from certain reactions.
I encourage getting some glassware off Ebay and some chemicals to do reactions that you're interested in.
It is much more satisfying seeing things work in front of your eyes.

Disagree. I've seen this bizzare beast advertized more than once before. Lots of schools are actually buying them.  ::)

My understanding is that schools consider the simulators sufficient to meet learning requirements and remove any litigation worries.

Also, it reduces costs and with the tax revolt and tuition revolt there is financial pressure to use the simulators.
