Relationship between full width half maximum (FWHM) and time
« on: January 18, 2014, 06:31:46 AM »
Hello people,

I have been carrying out seperation of cations by capillary electrophoresis using a contactless conductivity detector. I need to analyze peak broadening so I have the all the necessary data such as W50 (full width half maximum) and the time at which the peak appears. I would just like to know if there is any mathematical equation that expalins the relationship between fwhm and time, so that i can plot a graph and see how the two are related to eachother.
I would be really thankful if anyone of you takes a little time and help me in getting an appropriate answer to my question.

Thank you.

I'm told that you can input the data into Excell, and request that it plot and give you the equation.  I do not know how, but I'm sure the experts on here could guide you through.

Please let us know if this works, and what the relationship is.

If you don't know any equation, why don't you start by plotting the data you have?

Two of us have taken the time to respond to your request for help, and you have had plenty of time to try our suggestions.

It would be courteous to post the results, whether they were successful or not, because we can all learn from this.

@migi123 posted their question and requested an almost immediate answer (about 1 hour later). They were around until after a few hours had past (about 4 hours) and then left and not returned since (even in future days).
They did not come back the next day for a potential answer or participate more fully in the forum.
It is a sad commentary on us who volunteer our time who toil and provide guidance.
