How does time affect a chemical reaction?

Hi, my question is that for example, how would time affect the reduction of Fe
3+
to Fe
2+
? Would it be that not all of Fe
3+
had the time to react with the other chemicals to completely become Fe
2+
?
How about for the complex [(C12H8N2)3) Fe]2+

I assume it is question about kinetics. If so, answer depends on the reaction order, concentrations of all reactants involved, and rate constant.
