Vinyl monomer modifications

Hi,

The vinyl monomer I want to modify is hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA),


I wonder if I can do a etherification with an aryl bromide using the Ullman condensation (aryl bromide, K2CO3, Copper..) condition? Will the terminal C=C bond take part in the reaction as well?

I don't know whether the proposed reaction will work or not. However, if it were me, I'd buy some phenoxyethanol and esterify it with methacroyl chloride.

What happened? Did you re-isolate the starting material(s)? If yes, how much?
