After a little while in organic chemistry, you may be able to write out the name of this molecule.  Then, you can Google search the name.  Why not read ahead, and try to find out?  It could be fun..

Another strategy: Try to use SMILES or ChemDraw to draw it out precisely. That will give you a name. Then you can Google search. Or search on ChemSpider using SMILES.

Here's another clue, it's isolated from sweet wormwood (the herb also on the cover)

I have seen enough of that compound to last me a lifetime.

Interesting fact, if your thermostat on your dryin oven malfunctions while you have 200kg of said compound drying out and the temp exceeds 120°C it degrades rapidly to an acrid smoke which condenses as a sticky coating on everything.

Being a rare and highly sought after medicine at the time this was a bit of a disaster by all accounts. You live and learn.

Another interesting fact, this is the one and only substance which I found that using a biphasic re- cryst solvent mixture of methanol and heptane gave the best results from the crude plant extract. At boiling point the two phases became one and separated on cooling distributing the various impurities between the two.
