What Is The Worlds Strongest Oxidizing Agent?
« on: May 15, 2006, 02:02:01 PM »
Hello,
I am new to this forum but really enjoy reading about chemistry, I managed as far as an Alevel back in 1987 before dropping the subject I have always wished I had taken chemistry instead of Physics at Uni
My question is, is there a stronger oxidizing agent than fluorine, when I search the net I have been told that fluorine is the strongest common oxidizing agent but I have never found anything stronger than fluorine at 2.7V

The nearest I think is perxenic acid at around 2.4V, so is there a compound out there which could oxidize fluorine out of hydrogen fluorde?

osmium tetroxide can.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex
