MTT/MTS Dye

Hi,

I read in literature that the MTT/MTS dyes get reduced by the metabolic processes with the involvement of NADPH. But mechanistically, is this an electron transfer or an electron push sort of a mechanism? I am not sure how to draw the mechanism for this reduction reaction to form the formazan.

I do not understand more than it gets reduced/oxidized and acts almost as an electron/proton shuttle?

Most reactions involving NADPH or NADH are hydride-transfer reactions, in other words transfers of 1 proton and two electrons.  Of course, the chemical species being reduced by NADPH can also pick up a second proton from solvent.
