Determination of Water Content in Pyridine
« on: May 21, 2014, 02:03:50 AM »
Hi all,

Is there an alternative way to quantify water content (in the range of tens to hundreds of ppm) in pyridine, other than Karl-Fischer titration?
I am thinking to run FTIR by dropping pyridine onto a dried KBr card. I thought I could maybe use the broad OH peak around 3500 cm-1. However, the FTIR set up in my lab is not under vacuum and seeing that KBr and pyridine are both hygroscopic, I suspect it will significantly skew my measurement.

Thanks in advanced.
