Anyone have any idea what this piece is called?  And what it's used for?  It's stuck to the top of a Vigreux column, so I'd think it has something to do with distillation and reflux, but what exactly?

I've looked at numerous pages of the net, searched images and never found anything quite like it.  Any help would be much appreciated.
