Naming Compounds!
« on: July 27, 2014, 05:04:42 PM »

Hello, after reading the rules. I would just like to to learn how to know if a compound is insoluble in water and how do you know if it is an ionic compound.

OK.  Lets see how you name one.  Start with the first one.  What do you think it is?

Here are the rules for determining solubility:

And here's everything you need to know about determining if a compound is ionic:

Teachers usually give you a "solubility" table, from which you can figure out what is soluble and what is not.  You also get to do this at the lab, where it is more fun.  Naming compounds is a MUST or a lot of your chemistry classes at the college level, so be sure to master that and also master lewis structures.

Naming compounds is just a system that you have to memorize and practice.
