titration last calculations!!
« on: March 25, 2006, 07:44:44 AM »
my aim of my titration was to find the mass of HCl in 500ml of cleaning agent

ive worked out the moles of my base and its concentration in the 250ml standard solution from the moles of the base and the ratio i worked out the moles of the HCl and then i worked out its concentration of the volume i titred into the base
but now i have to work out the mass in a 500ml bottle to answer my aim
not sure where to start i have equation

Mass (g) = amount (mol) X RFM (g mol -1)
but not sure how to fit in my figures can any1 help ?

Once you've found the moles of HCl in 250mL, you multiply them by 2 and you have the moles in 500mL.

Then you multiply them by MW of HCl.

That's it.

Bsp:

2 mol into 250 ml
4 mol into 500 ml
8 mol into 1000 ml  (8 molar)

4 mol x 36,46 g/mol = 145,84 g

atomic mass H = 1.008 u.m.a.
atomic mass Cl = 35.453 u.m.a.

molecular weight HCl = 36.461 g/mol
