A mixture of solid NaCl and Anthracene (C14H10) was added to a separatory funnel containing 100 mL of Water and 100 mL of Diethyl ether. After shaking the contents of the funnel, no soild remained. Which layer did each substance dissolve in and why?
I think the answer is the NaCl would combine with Water because salt is water soluable. But I'm not sure what would happen to the Anthracene since I do not think it is soluble in ether or water.
