Hi
I have a mixture of two compounds (phenyl ether & acetylferrocene). If I run it in TLC with 100% hexane eluent, how will the TLC look like? My assumption is that since phenyl ether is a nonpolar compound, the nonpolar solvent, hexane, will carry it higher up in the TLC plate, very close to the solvent front, whereas the acetylferrocene is a polar substance & with the polar silica gel TLC plates, it will most likely stick to the bottom of the plate. Does that sound right?
Please clarify if I am mistaken.
Thanks
