Need some clarification on pore volume units
« on: January 04, 2015, 05:15:12 PM »
Hello, i'm currently working on my final year project which is based on the advanced of MOF materials. I was reading a paper on MOF-5 and stumbled upon a pore volume value with the units cm3 cm-3 which doesnt make sense as they would just cancel out. I assume i am misinterpreting the results, could someone elaborate as to why these are the untis?

http://i.gyazo.com/b900eca17451f79adc2366938d6f7be7.png both highlighted parts quote the pore density in units of cm3 cm-3

Reference to the paper: Hailian Li, Mohamed Eddaoudi, M. O'Keeffe & O. M. Yaghi, Nature, 1999, 402, 276-279

Void volume / Total volume?

i.e. volume of cavity / gross volume of sample

Like imagine u drill a hole of dia. d through a cube of side 2d

You can divide volume of cylinderical hole by volume of entire cube.
