preparation of 2-chloro-2-methylbutane
« on: March 08, 2015, 02:24:55 PM »
i know the mechanism, but i came across this question
one possible side product of this reaction is an alkene write a mechanism for the formation of this alkene?

describe one test tube reaction you could use to demonstrate the presence of 2-chloro-2-methyl-butane in your product. illustrate answer with chemical  equations ?

if this reaction was carried out with 1 pentanol instead of 2 methyl butan- 2-ol keeping all reagents and conditions the same what effect will it have on the reaction ?

Most likely the reaction between 2-methylbutan-2-ol and hydrochloric acid?
