ATP Equivalents
« on: April 14, 2015, 11:09:51 PM »
I am told that 9 Acetyl CoA yields 90 ATP via Citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. I can't figure out how.

My reasoning for citric acid cycle is (27 NADH)(2.5)= 67.5 and (9 FADH2)(1.5)= 13.5. This total equals 81 ATP. How does oxidative phosphorylation bring this number to 90?

Look for a substrate-level phosphorylation in the middle of the cycle.
