Could this actually be a way of synthesising ethyl (E)-4-ethoxy-4-phenylbut-2-enoate from 2-ethoxy-2-phenylacetaldehyde (see my attached suggestion). I am asking because I am not sure if it can be carried out the ether group as a substituent.

Sorry, the final compound was meant to be ethyl (E)-4-ethoxy-4-phenylbut-2-enoate (the first molecule shown in the document at the very top) and not a molecule with an acid anhydride.
