I have no idea how dyeing eggs is popular in US. In Poland it is just like Christmas tree - there is no Christmas without tree, there is no Easter without dyed eggs. And - while the methods are numerous - one of the most popular and easy ones is to boil eggs in the water with onion peelings.

Google "pisanki", click on images. Brown one (from oplatki.com) looks like made with onion peelings. Ornament is either scratched after dyeing or egg is painted with hot wax before boiling. If is one of those folklore things :)

French backround. It's a tradition as well. But we got some new ideas from that article.

Canadian Background.  The painted-eggs tradition is popular with some of the little kids, but otherwise, Easter is only a religious celebration.

I think in some areas Easter is just more tradition than a religious holiday or at least it's starting to be like that. Big bunny, chocolate, and egg hunts. I miss being a little kid. Those days were nice. Life was blissfull and the worst thing you could get from girls were cooties.

Yes this is a shame I think. Although it is good if people use it as a chance to spend time with family and/or friends. I still have it as a religious holiday.

When it is spent with my catholic grandmother it is quite religious. Even with my mom we have to go to church.
