Hello, I am new to the forum.

I will be a junior undergrad this fall going for my BS in Chemistry with a concentration in polymers.  The curriculum has me taking advanced courses in polymer synthesis and I'm wondering, with a BS-Chemistry degree that is specialized like this, are job outlooks considerably better than a BS-Chem is from a school with a generic chemistry curriculum?

I do not have the exact answer you are looking for however I can give anecdotal evidence for the following claim:

Try and get as much industrial work experience you can because you are going to be going against people who will have some kind of industrial work placement as part of their course.

The anecdotal part is this: Everyone who went on a work placement from my graduating class found a job in the industry within 6 months of graduation. Some went onto PhD and Masters courses, and those who did not have any experience are either working outside of the industry through choice or circumstance; or are unemployed because the job market is harsh.

Some may disagree with what I have said but its a dog eat dog world out there with fewer jobs and much more competition. Polymers are a big thing but you need to make sure you are also able to adapt to changing times because materials chemistry and polymer chemistry wont be the big thing for long.
