Will sodium transmetallate with a primary bromide as readily as lithium??
If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the precipitate

In theory, Yes.
In practice, No. It is very difficult.
If you want to prepare an alkylsodium, start from sodium alkoxide (tert-butoxide, in preference) and transmetallate with butyllithium. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0022328X85803260
