What is the product formed from the hydration of 3-ethyl-2-methylpent-2-ene ? I know that alkenes hydration will form alcohols through carbocation intermediates, and the more stable carbocation will predominately form. so I'm confused about the two branch of the molecule above, methyl and ethyl. which is more stable ? where should the -OH be placed in the product , Is it 3-ethyl-2-methylpentan-2-ol or 3-ethyl-2-methylpentan-3-ol ? Thank you very much
