How to answer this Density problem?
« on: October 12, 2015, 07:59:40 PM »
Hello, I have a problem I need to work on that involves density.

"The density of a substance is 9.31 g/cm^3. What would the volume be, in mL, for a 525 gram sample of that substance? (note:1 cm^3 = 1 mL exactly)"

So exactly how do I start/do this problem? I know that density=mass/volume but how do I move on from what I was given? I'm not given dimensions so I'm not exactly sure how to start or do anything...

Will appreciate any hints for me to actually start this problem, thanks!

Ok, write, on a piece of paper, Density = mass/volume.  Then, underneath it, write it again, this time replace the terms with numbers you've been given.  If you're still stuck, type it here, and we'll see if we can help.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Okay, I did that. I ended up with 9.31g/cm^3=525g/volume. I solved for volume by multiplying by each side and then I divided 9.31 from each side to get volume on it's own. I then ended up with 56.4 (with proper sig figs). So would it be 56.4 cm^3 but changed to 56.4 mL?

Does the original question also provide you with a conversion factor?

Yes the cm^3 = mL is given to me
