Keeping Dihydroxyacetone in its solid monomeric form
« on: November 28, 2015, 04:46:03 PM »
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) C3H6O3 is a 3-carbon sugar. DHA is naturally found in its dimer form and can be converted to its monomer form by heat or when in a aqueous solution. When heated it takes about 30 days for DHA in its monomeric form to convert back to it dimeric form. The two monomers are covalently bonded.

How do you keep DHA in its monomeric crystalline form without adding water?
Can you add another molecule to prevent the dimer from forming?

Thanks
Victoria
