Bromochloroiodoethane?
« on: December 06, 2015, 05:07:21 PM »
Hey I'm being asked to write the molecular formula and structure of bromochloroiodoethane, but this molecule brings up no results in google, and I was wondering what that would look like.

Thanks

Damn Google.  When will they improve.  Can you begin to solve this one on your own?  What elements is it made of?  Can you draw the structure of some parts?
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Well what I've got is the Bromine and Chlorine branching off the same carbon. I was mainly wondering if it mattered that they were branching from the same carbon or if it doesn't because it has different isomers

Well, it definitely does matter, in terms of properties, and in how you'd make it.  But they haven't asked you, so I guess any writable formula will do.

Thanks. I'm also wondering why this molecule doesn't show up on google? Is it because the molecule cannot form due to some law?

@Oreosftw
Is it possible that there is a typo
There is only 1 letter (m) difference between
bromochloroiodomethane
bromochloroiodoethane

Well there isn't a typo in this thread seeing as it does say ethane on the question I've been given by my teacher.

This is a very simple problem.  Besides the halogens, are there any other atoms besides carbon?

How many carbons exist in ethane?
