Hi, I have to find the most stable form of phosphorus. My professor said that I have to look in the SI Chemical Data to find it. He said that the form with the lowest standard Gibbs energy is the one. White phosphorus has the lowest value, but the internet does not agree with that (black is said to be the most stable). I also need to find the standard form of phosphorus (hint: it is highly unstable and reacts spontaneously in air) - I suspect it is white, but I am not sure.
How can I use the different values in the SI Chemical Data to find these types of things?
I have values for the standard enthalpy of formation for 1 mole, the standard Gibbs energy, the standard entropy, the standard molar heat capacity for constant pressure and molar enthalpies for melting, sublimation and vaporisation.
