So I'm trying to write a balanced equation for the reaction of Nickel(II) acetate tetrahydrate + salicylaldehyde. The product is Diaquabis(salicylaldato)nickel(II). The reactants are mixed with sodium hydroxide, do I need to include this in the equation? Also, it's mixed with ethanol, but is that just a solvent and doesn't need to be included in the equation? If the sodium hydroxide is included, where does the sodium go? Will you get sodium acetate?

Try in terms of a net ionic equation.
