Hello ,

I am having trouble figuring out this problem. I've tried everything ,but I don't understand what i am doing wrong. Could someone please explain to me.

I've attached the image.

I'm new to this forum ,so i don't really know how to attach images.
The questions are
1. Which of the atom(s) is/are sp3 hybridized?

2. Which of the atom(s) is/are sp2 hybridized?

3. Which of the atom(s) is/are represented by the energy diagram on the left?

4. Which of the atom(s) is/are represented by the energy diagram on the right?

You should show your work.
Moreover, last two questions concern isolated atoms, not joined into compound.

Not exactly.  These numbers are a sum of bonds and nonbonding electron pairs (rarely one electron instead)

you propably mean adjacent atoms, not bonds. i.e. carbon with two adjacent atoms has bond number 4 but orbitals are sp hybridized. notice that lone electronpair at nitrogen and two at oxygen are at their own orbitals. that lowers the number of possible adjacent atoms by one and two. i.e. nitrogen with two adjacent atoms has bond number 3 but is sp2 hybridized.
