Is there a doctor in the house?
« on: May 08, 2016, 09:04:53 PM »
I recently got some silver and gold ore from a friend and melted it at home thinking the silver would melt out or the gold would stick together better to pan out. Later I found out it had uranium in it and arsenic. The next day I woke up I was dizzy and really sick. I have been not feeling well since and its been a couple days. Could I have inhaled some type of poisonous gas? I didn't use a mask. It was high in lead and also turned wierd like borax with a yellow bubble like stuff. The stuff melted really fast maybe that was the lead maybe it wasn't. Do you think I m sick because of just melting a few pounds of this stuff?

No.  Yes. Possibly.  Go see a doctor.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  You may be just fine, but we don't give medical advice here for liability reasons.  Uranium is a weird one, but lead and arsenic are common in gold and silver ores, so you shouldn't try to smelt them indoors without a fume hood.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

I don't even know would tell them to test for, no I'm not looking for medical advice really I'm just wondering if fumes from something like that are toxic? If I could have inhaled some or not at toxic levels? When I looked up the dangers after I already did it of (stupid) I saw warnings of smelting ores. One person said you wake up glowing if there is that yellow percipate like on picture.

I would imagine they would test for heavy metal poisoning. There are treatments for this, so you should go to a&e as soon as possible.

If you're worried about your health, go see a doctor.  If you have a good one, they'd be glad to hear about your hobbies, and talk to you all all the precautions needed.  You can also get a blood test, to see if your liver, and kidneys are still doing their job, or are damaged, or overwhelmed by other tissue damage.

There's lost of random stuff that you've posted.  Observations that don't follow logically, things that you've heard that are wrong.  If you're really worried, go see a doctor.
