CCM Maltitol pharmacopea
« on: August 11, 2016, 11:17:00 AM »
Hello everyone !

I am glad to be here with you.

I ve had a few issues with the detection of Maltitol with the pharmacopoeia method. So I ve been trying to understand the reactions of it.

In the protocol we firstly spray our CCM with 4-acid aminobenzoic solution (water, acetic acid and phosphoric acid also inside), then we let get dry and heat at 105C 15min.

Then let get cold and spray with periodate sodium solution (also some sulfuric acid diluted inside), we let get dry and heat again.

Sometimes I get the point, sometimes no... What aminobenzoic acid and periodate do actually ?

Thanks a lot!

iodate oxidation of 1,2-diol, Maillard reaction on heating.

iodate oxidation of 1,2-diol, Maillard reaction on heating.

So the 4-acid aminobenzoic reacts with maltitol and the silanol of the CCM -> CCM gets Brown

then the periodate oxydizes the maltitol  -> white spots

right ?

thanks :)

Sfter periodic oxidadion of 1,2-diol amine group of p-aminobenzoic acid reacts with aldehyde and on heating melanoidins are formed. This is my guess.
