hello mates

this is a lil stupid question but it makes a lot of sense to me

you see am an art student
now i want to colour grains of rice and preserve them in a bottle .
So what i really need to know is a chemical which would retain the colour on the grains and also has no harmfull affect on the human body.

no doubt i have the option of water but even if i use water proof paint, Water would deffinately have an affect on the rice grain over time.

i would really appreciate if some one could help me

You want the rice to submerged in some liquid, yes?

Do you want the liquid to be colorless, or the color of the rice?

And why do you want it to be harmless? Most paints are considered harmless as long as you don't try to eat them, the same will hold for dyes that can be used.

I have no idea what the answer can be, but at the moment your question is too vauge.

Do you want a chemical for colouring the rice or a chemical (liquid) for the jar?

Has anyone ever tried sticking rice in 99% (or anything above 90%) ethyl alcohol. Methyl alcohol might be better seeing as people are less likely to drink it.

I reckon ethanol would be better, that way, there isn't the risk of somebody mistaking MeOH for EtOH and drinking it.
