Reaction between glycerol and HCL

I am wondering what happens if i mix them, if any...
I tried looking it up but i cant seem to get an answer... Some say it gets very violent and exothermic reaction while some say nothing happens
Can anyone help with that please?

Also, let say nothing happens and they just becomes a mixture... is it possible to bring it to 125C, around 15C above the boiling point of HCL?
Will it boil at 110C and only when the water is all gone then it rises again? if so, what happen to the HCL gas? does it dissolve in the glycerol?

Please help me out.. thx

Reaction of glycerol with concentrated water solution HCl is performed using water bath and gives mainly monosubstituted products (both isomers).
So forget about violent and exothermic reaction.

Oh wow thx, so they do react...

What about when i heat it up to around 150C?

Will the HCL escape? or has it reacted with the glycerol and something else happens?

Warming on the water bath (~100 C) under reflux condenser is just for keeping HCl in the reaction mixture.

Is it even possible to raise the mixture to those numbers with the water evaporating?

HCl forms azeotropic mixture with water and boiling temperature of solution at atmospheric pressure will be constant (108.6 C).

sorry for the misunderstanding, what im trying to say is... while the HCL solution boils at 108C, will the glycerol rises or stay at 108C as well?

Vapor pressure of glycerin at 108 C is rather low (~1mm Hg)
