Determining byproduct species
« on: December 08, 2016, 10:20:54 AM »
Hi, guys.
I really need to know, if I am given a reaction and told that besides the stated product, some byproducts will form, how can I determine what the byproducts are? I know the amount of the reactants and the conversion rate of the reaction.

Hi, guys.

I'm going to answer your question with a question, and I'm going to remind you that thats part of the forum rules, linked in red, at the top of every page.

Answer this: If you had a reaction, but didn't know the main product, how would you determine the main product?  The answer is the same for side reactions.  You have offered to provide amounts of reactants and conversion rates.  Can you you tell us how you would  use that information to determine the major products of an unknown reaction?  If you cant then how will it help you determine side reactions.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
