Crossed Aldol reaction product
« on: May 02, 2017, 05:25:57 PM »
I'm interested if I got this right on the quiz I took. I think heating would result in the elimination product right? Is my structure correct?  The question doesn't imply I need to show a mechanism so disregard the scribbles.
(The base was after the enolate formation...meant to write that it formed the enolate via extraction of the acidic alpha hydrogen)
Thanks, I'm new here and also undergrad. Confused on these alpha carbon mechanisms.

Your answer is basically correct. The only issue I have with it is your structural notation -  was taught that style in high school, but now that you are advancing, you should switch to skeletal formulae.

I typically use skeletal structure but in this case I was making sure my connectivity was clear. Thanks for the response.
