Enery of H atom
« on: August 28, 2004, 06:25:37 PM »
What is the energy of the n = 4 and n=6 level of a H atom?

That is my question.  I know it has something to do with Bohr and my book gives a complicated energy equation, but doesn't give any help on what to plug in.  Please help? 8)

Whenever you post a question just show that you have atleast attemoted the problem.

Anyway you read your book carefully.If you got this question in your book than you must have the Topic on Bohrs atomic model.And there is a formulae to find the energy of electron in orbits around the nucleus.

For energy of nth orbit:
En=-13.6eVxz2/n2     [Square of z and n]

Where z is the atomic number and n is the number of orbit.
