It's always stated that oxygen has sp2 hybridization but when looking at the relative energies of oxygen and carbon, isn't it preferential for the oxygen to stay unhybridized?
https://imgur.com/a/xUyeuLyWhen I used the ionization energy data and used that to get the relative energies of the sp2 hybridized orbitals of Oxygen, it shows a greater energy gap between Oxygen's sp2 and Carbon's sp compared to Oxygen's 2p and Carbon's sp. So shouldn't the oxygen remain unhybridized so that it's easier for the orbitals to overlap?
