Lead from Water
« on: September 26, 2018, 09:44:50 AM »
Hello, I'm currently a senior in high school and for my AP Capstone class i'm planning on doing a project that involves lead testing in water. Is there anyway I could somehow synthesize the lead through the water through a rxn inexpensively? I've taken AP Chemistry so I have experience and have basic H.S chemistry equipment. I would also like to measure how much lead is in the water rather than just testing for it's presence in water. If there's no affordable way to go about doing this I plan to just send it to labs and have them test it. Thank you in advance.

Welcome, poshypop!

Lead nitrate is available from Sigma-Aldrich-Merck, Lead(II) chloride too. Dissolve them in water.

Corroding lead with nitric acid looks too dangerous for you, as NO2 evolves.

So would the pre existing lead in the water just bond with the compound being added? Could you go in a little more depth with the process?

For the rest of your question you have to show some work.
For instance what have you gotten from doing GOOGLE or Wikipedia.  Typically we answer questions with hints not just spoon feed.
