Purifying CuCl2?
« on: October 19, 2018, 03:12:21 PM »
I made CuCl2 per 1:1 solution of HCl and H2O2 at maybe 500 ml total with maybe 20 grams of copper wire with some other metal in it— my guess as a tin, like solder-.  I read a Wikipedia article on CuCl2 and found “Once prepared, a solution of CuCl2 may be purified by crystallization. A standard method takes the solution mixed in hot dilute hydrochloric acid, and causes the crystals to form by cooling in a CaCl2-ice bath.”  Would this method work with H2O2 and other metals as possible contaminants? Where can I find accessible further reading? I mainly made the aqueous solution for blue fire, would a more pure solution yield similar results in a fire?

Thanks for any help,

-Andy

H2O2 is no problem this will decompose by heating. For your blue flame it should be also no problem to have some tin it.
