I am experimenting with fiber reactive dyes on leather. The basic idea is that fiber reactive dye creates covalent bonds with cellulose or similar compounds at ph=10ish.
Standard pH adjuster is the Soda Ash.
What i am finding is that oils and fats in the leather get washed out making leather stiff.
I am assuming soda ash turns oils and fats into soap causing them to wash out.
I am looking for recommendations of what i can use to raise pH o the solution to 10, yet prevent the saponofication of oils and fats found in leather.
Any advice on what products / compounds i should try?
Thanks ahead
