I’ve been working on an emulsion that is low in pH (around 2.9-3.0) and contains quaternary ammonia cations as active biocides. I’m currently using a cationic surfactant with 0.2% active CaCl2 but still see separation in 60 degrees celsius after a few hours. I was looking into using a hydrotrope as a cosurfactant to help better stabilize the system, however I’m not very knowledgeable on them. Can hydrotropes be used in cationic systems and would it help stabilize an oil in water emulsion better? Would love any feedback, thanks!
