Hello chemists,
I want to ask you. Can I use phosphoric acid and not sulfuric acid in the synthesis of primary n-bromoalkanes from:
1. KBr and alcohols and 2. HBr and alcohols? Sulfuric acid has the poor property that it can oxidize KBr to bromine, but phosphoric acid not.
I have a lot of alcohols, KBr, hydrobromic acid and phosphoric acid as 85% solution, and it attracts me to use it for n-bromoalkanes.
Thank you very much, Lukáš S.
