Could someone verify my attempt to name this cyclic alkane?
« on: September 09, 2006, 07:31:23 PM »
Attached is the molecule.

I think it is 1,1,2,4-tetraethyl-3-methylcyclobutane... but I am not sure about the numbering.

In addition, is there any computer program where I could plug in a molecule and it would tell me its name? Something free maybe?

Thanks,
Filip

Chemsketch Freeware 10.0 (from ACD Labs) is a great piece of chemistry software, and with the I-Lab add-on (included in the freeware package), you can draw the molecule and get it IUPAC named.

Don't rely on it for small molecules, because you won't get to use it during tests ;)
