Addition Polymerisation (Polyethylene)
« on: June 19, 2020, 11:30:33 PM »
Currently Doing an Assignment for Polymerisation,

Can Someone Clarify the formation process of HDPE (ie Initiation, Propagation, Termination), specifically the role of the Ziegler-Natta aluminium titanium catalyst in the initiation phase of polymerisation. Is, like in formation process of LDPE, a peroxide free radical initiator still used in addition with the catalyst? or does the catalyst itself initiate the polymerisation process by producing a free radical site on the ethylene monomer unit.

Kind Regards,

Zac  :)  ;D

Ziegler-Natta processes proceed through organometallic intermediates, not radicals.
