Platinum(IV) chloride and Platinum(IV) oxide

Hello. I would like to ask if is there any difference in reactivity between Platinum(IV) chloride and Platinum(IV) oxide. I want to use it as catalyst for hydrogenation.

It highly depends. I´ve never seen / used PtCl4 used for hydrogenation but I suppose anything could work. Colleagues of mine had troubles with hydrogenation and PtO2 was the only working catalyst for some reason, I had good succes with Pt/C or Pd/C or PtCl2 + TES system

With the halides its important to know that HCl will form in case the substrate is acid-sensitive.
