I'm trying to do a protease assay, but my school doesn't have Phenol reagant. Is it possible to use Iron(III) chloride to react with the tyrosine. Would there be a noticeable colour change that is quantifiable without a spectrophotometer? To my knowledge, tyrosine has a phenol group and I read that Iron(III) chloride would react with phenol groups. Also, what concentration of Iron(III) Chloride solution would be adequate and in what amount?
