Extracting Lidocaine from patches

Could anyone lend me a hand on my project I'm doing to learn more about Chemistry? Im not an undergrad but I feel this is more appropriate here. Its on extracting Lidocaine from LIDODERM 5% patches I found laying around my house. It the patches are using lidocaine free base in an "aqueous base". I've read that separating lidocaine from an organic solvent is very difficult so I would like to somehow precipitate it from that "aqueous base" however online I cannot find much info on an aqueous base. Does it mean some base was dissolved in water and now the freebase lidocaine is soluble in it? Freebase lidocaine is practically insoluble in water so if it is soluble in basic water I should add an acid to neutralize the base and therefore that would precipitate the lidocaine.. right?

I mean lidocaine i just a numbing agent, I don't really know any condition it would medicate that the patch couldnt solve... Im more interested in just the chemistry tbh
