Hey guys and gals,
I need some conceptual help. If I have a sealed container with 50% room air and 50% perfume (essentially a solution containing various ketones, aldehydes, and esters dissolved in tap water) I know that some of the ketones, aldehydes, and esters will vaporize and an equilibrium will form in the container... My question is will the same equilibrium form if the container has 50% inert gas such as argon instead of room air? Is there any way to stop the perfume components from vaporizing in the container and staying in the liquid state assuming that we can't change the amount of room air in the sealed container?
