Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction

I am not a chemist, or even a chemistry student.  I’m watching a doc on Quantum Mechanics and this reaction is discussed. I’m curious, how long the reaction occurs?  I’ve googled a bit and it seems oxidation is it’s cause? I’m curious about it, and he doc doesn’t explain much beyond it occurring.  I’m sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong area.  Thank you for your time.

No simple answer to this question, as the BZ reaction is actually a class of reactions, not a single one. Depending on the exact composition of the solution and initial concentrations oscillations can be observed for just few minutes or for many hours (even days if memory serves me well).
