Chemistry article - RuBisCo
« on: July 22, 2021, 04:39:37 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm a grade 12 student and I'm writing a chemistry report on the enzyme RuBisCo and its possibilities for optimization to relate to the process of carbon fixation. I found an article that comes to a conclusion that is helpful for my research, but I'm having trouble understanding the data - I asked my Chem teacher for help and he said to post it on here in the hopes someone would be able to explain it :)

The link is above - it goes into a discussion of kinetic parameters and regression analysis of the carboxylation/oxygenation reactions, and I don't have much base knowledge of any of this.

From what I've understood, I think I'm particularly interested in Figure 2 and Table 1, as I need data that can show that the enzyme has the possibility of optimization in the future due to the possible simultaneous improvement in both specificity and turnover rate and that the dissociation constant rates are higher than previously estimated.

Just for context, my assignment has the research question basically asking can RuBisCo be optimized to boost the efficiency of photosynthesis.

Any help is much appreciated! Thankyou!
