Questions on lactic acid

I have a few questions on lactic acid. I have got most of my info, but just need help with a few questions. Here they are:

1.) What group of organic compunds does lactic acid belong to?

2.) Why is it important to living things?

3.) What foods can it be found in or how the body accquires it for use?
