lets say you burn a wood stove and the exhaust is hooked up to a box AIR TIGHT one way. the smoke can only go into the box and cant go out.

so how long can this happen? how much smoke could fit in there before it turns into something else or explodes?

Smoke consists of solid particles and water droplets suspended in air. For one thing, if you container is air tight, whatever carrier gas you're directing into it will eventually experience backflow. Even if that weren't the case, the solid particles will deposit on the walls of your container.
